LESOTHO national under-20 side Makoanyane XI were on Monday paired against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique in Group A for the COSAFA Under-20 Championship to be staged in Port Elizabeth from December 3-13.

South Africa and Zimbabwe have enjoyed a lot of success in the youth tournament over the years and will once again be among favourites earmarked to lift the 2020 edition of the competition.

Makoanyane XI coach, Bafokeng Mohapi, who will be in-charge of the squad for the first after replacing Bob Mafoso, admitted that his side has a mammoth task ahead of them.

“I have seen the draw and it’s a very tough pool, but I think with good preparations we can go there and give them a run for their money,” he said.

“We have an idea of what to expect from South Africa because we played them in the same competition last year. They still have the same coach and maybe he will not make a lot of changes to his squad.

“Zimbabwe will also not be a closed book because we played them in 2018. We will do more research on all teams because Mozambique are also a tough and competitive side.”

Makoanyane XI last played in the final of the regional tournament in 2017, losing 1-0 to the then Thabo Senong coached South Africa’s Amajita.
