VODACOM Premier League giants, Matlama FC, on Monday terminated the contract of their Malawian coach, Charles Manda following Tse Putsoa’s back to back league losses at the hands of LDF and Linare.

The Sea-Point-based outfit went down 2-1 to LDF on May 22 before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Linare on Sunday.

Matlama FC’s Social Media publicist Themba Talane, confirmed this and mentioned that the team’s executive committee has resolved that assistant coach Molebatsi Mothobi will carry on as the club’s interim coach.

According to Matlama statement released on Tuesday, Tse Putsoa resolved to fire him due to his failure to meet his employment terms.

“The committee decided to appoint its former assistant coach Molebatsi Mothobi as interim coach until the end of the season. He will be assisted by Sello Seholoholo and Mokoena Mohale on that role,” the statement reads in part.

For his part, Manda declined to comment on the matter and referred this publication to Matlama’s management.

The Malawian joined Matlama at the beginning of the 2019/20 season after Tse Putsoa’s former coach Thabile Secker left the club for Lioli before later joining Lijabatho FC.

He signed a two-year contract with Tse Putsoa and his deal was expected to end at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The team is currently at the fifth position in Vodacom Premier League log and has so far played seven matches, winning five and losing two and earning 15 points in the process.

Manda steered Tse Putsoa to the Independence Cup glory in December 2019.

Established in 1932, Matlama are the most successful club in the Mountain Kingdom, having won a record 10 league championships.

In their next league encounter, they will battle Lijabatho FC at Setsoto stadium in Maseru on Thursday.
