TSE-PUTSOA’s new sensation Teboho ‘Billiat” Pita has hit the ground running in his maiden year of topflight football netting three goals from Matlama’s opening four matches of the 2020/2021 Vodacom Premier league season.

The 26-year-old joined Tse-Putsoa after an impressive showing with Machokha FC in the PostBank A Division last season, netting 15 goals for the Thaba-Bosiu based outfit.

Pita admitted his surprise at how quickly he settled down at the country’s most successful side and to be among the top goal scorers in the four games played so far in the Vodacom premier league.

“To be honest with you, I didn’t expect to settle down that quickly and have such a good start to life playing in the premier league. It’s a bit of a surprise to me as well,” the new Matlama sensation said.

“When I first joined the club, a lot of people said I should be prepared for the worst because the reception from my new teammates might make it difficult for me to settle quickly. But to my surprise, it was the opposite of what people had told me because the reception was amazing, both from the players and management. It’s actually the motivation that helped me to hit the ground running.”

The Ha Mosalla born forward said his biggest inspiration is former Tse-Putsoa striker-Motebang Sera, who is now playing his football in the South African DSTV Premiership for Bloemfontein Celtic.

Pita added: “I want to continue growing as a player locally and play for the national team. Sera is my biggest inspiration because he has proved that with hard work, anything is possible in football. His success is all about hard because I’m sure when he started, no one gave him a chance of one day playing in South Africa.

“The break brought by the COVID-19 pandemic might affect the momentum I was having as an individual and the team as well because we won all our opening four games and I scored in three of them.

“But I believe in hard work and I will continue to give my all-in training because that’s the only way I can get better as a player. It is through hard work that I have managed to move from the lower division and make an impact in the premier league playing for a big team like Matlama,” he said.

Pita also revealed that he has been getting a lot of love and support from his family and the Mosalla community after an impressive start in the blue and white colours of Matlama.

“My family has been very supportive and so is the community of Ha Mosalla, all are proud of my achievement especially since making the move to Matlama. I’m also getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex as well (laughs), which is natural for a boy when he is doing well,” the 26-year-old stated.

“However, like I said, all my focus is on my football career and making it a success story. I know there will be a lot of distractions along the way, but I’m prepared mentally.

“Another inspiration is Jane Thabantšo, who is a teammate at Matlama and has been consistent playing at the highest level for almost a decade for club and the national team. There is also another homeboy, Retšelisitsoe Khoete playing for Bantu and has been very supportive as well as he felt I have what it takes to play in the premier league before I joined Matlama,” he also said.
