MASERU - The Africa 2020 Paralympic Qualifiers which were scheduled for Port Elizabeth, South Africa from March 21 to 25 have been cancelled due to the prevailing Corona virus pandemic.

The decision to call off the continental games was made by the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa and the South African Sport Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD).
The Lesotho Paralympics team head coach, Thabiso Ratšoane has confirmed the cancellation of the competition, saying the athletes’ lives come first.

He said president of SASAPD has pledged to be responsible, thoughtful and transparent with their decision.

SASAPD boss, he also said has promised to do everything possible to create a safe environment for the athletes so that their lives are not put at risk.
“Preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games which are set to open on August 25, are however, continuing,” Ratšoane said.

He showed that multiple Para sport events around the world have also been postponed.
‘Such changes are having an impact on classifications and qualification opportunities for Para athletes ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games,” he also said.
The local team was set to leave on Thursday to compete at the Paralympics Qualifiers.
