SAFA President Danny Jordaan has been recommended for the presidency of the Confederation of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) at meeting held in Johannesburg, Gauteng by the regional body on Saturday.

His Lesotho counterpart KC Salemane Phafane told a press conference this week that the member states resolved to recommend someone from South Africa as the country holds a huge part of the corporate world in the region, hence it will be easy to get sponsorships under the headship of such a person.

“We discussed a suitable candidate for the upcoming COSAFA elective Annual General Meeting and concluded that SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan is such a candidate. We also resolved that the current COSAFA President, Dr Philip Chiyangwa should not be re-elected as he no longer heads the football governing body in Zimbabwe.

“Even though we recommended Dr Jordaan for the post, we made it clear that anyone is still allowed to challenge him for the position during elections,” he said.

Phafane is himself not eligible for the position because he is an Honorary Vice President of COSAFA, which is a permanent position.

Jordaan is also an Advisor to CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, particularly in charge of sport and marketing.
