TOP Likuena striker, Motebang Sera says he is honoured to have become his country’s all-time leading goal-scorer in the COSAFA Cup, after his double against Zambia took him to the top of the charts with six goals.

The Bloemfontein Celtic forward takes up the baton from former Lesotho captain Tlali Maile, who was on five goals having netted four and one at the 2013 and 2015 editions of the tournament respectively.

Sera is currently on six COSAFA Cup goals alongside the likes of Deon Hutto of Namibia and Malawi’s Gabadihno Mhango, who also play their football in the South African DSTV Premiership.

The 26-year-old star has registered a goal in each of the last five tournaments since coming on as second half substitute to score in the 90th minute as Lesotho clinched a comfortable 3-0 win over Mauritius at the 2016 tournament in Namibia.

He joins Mozambique’s legend Tico Tico Bucuane as the only players to have scored in five different COSAFA Cup tournaments, but Sera is the only player to have done it in five straight competitions.

“It’s really an honour to learn that I’m Lesotho’s top goal scorer in the COSAFA Cup. It’s an even greater honour to have scored in five tournaments, consecutively.

“It’s really a great thing and I’m very humbled and honoured with those achievements. All these wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of my teammates and the technical team.

“I don’t play for individual glory, but I always want to score and help my country win in every match we play. I will keep working hard and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my country.”

Commenting on Lesotho’s final Group A match against South Africa, the lanky forward is adamant they can upset their neighbours like they previously did when they beat them in two leg encounters in the 2019 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Lesotho won the first leg match by 3-2 in Maseru and went on to complete a famous double with a 3-0 victory at the Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa.

“Coming to the game with Bafana Bafana, we have been preparing for that meeting and it’s a must win for us. We really need to win this one and we have put our minds to it because anything can still happen in our group,” the formidable goal poacher said.
