AFTER failing on several occasions to hold its executive committee elections due to among others the COVID-19 imposed nationwide lockdowns and some members dragging the body to court, the Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) will finally hold an elective annual general meeting on Saturday in Maseru.

LTA publicist Sek’hok’he Molikoe told Metro that the nomination of candidates is expected to end on Thursday to give the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) enough time to prepare for the weekend polls.

He said an IEC team has been appointed by the two mother bodies - the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC).

He noted that they are working as per the High Court directive issued on December 15.

In his judgment, Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi ruled that the list of taekwondo clubs submitted by the LTA to both LSRC and the LNOC reflecting the clubs that were entitled to participate at the AGM and the LTA committee elections be declared as null and void as long as it includes teams whose membership had been terminated and never reapplied for such membership.

“The LTA is directed to issue a notice calling for the Annual General Meeting within seven days of receipt of this order, such notice being in compliance with the time frames in the constitution of the LTA,” reads the court order in part.

Molikoe also confirmed that his plan is to return to the LTA administration but to a different portfolio, this time around.

“I plan to return to LTA administration but to a different portfolio this time around. I am actually eyeing the association’s vice presidency,” he said.

Former LTA boss Moshoeshoe Molapo has also shown interest in retaining the position.

Molapo who is also an international taekwondo referee has served as LTA president for two consecutive terms, since 2012.

He also served the LTA as an executive committee member since 2005 when he was first elected as the Public Relations Officer before he became the Secretary General in 2008.

He is also the President of the Confederation of Southern African Taekwondo Associations (COSATA), having served in that position from 2008.

Another former LTA boss Moorosana Nkesi showed that he would not be competing in the forthcoming elections, adding that he was done with sports politics.
