Thabaneng new DIFA Berea President

Thabaneng collected 92 votes while his competitors, Mothoalo and former FC Likhopo skipper, Nkopane Ntoi garnered 25 and five votes respectively.
Thabaneng who is also the National Women Football Committee Vice President and the Berea Ladies coach told Metro that because all these positions deal with the administration of football, he will manage them without major challenges.
“I started coaching Berea Ladies from 2007 until 2016 and was elected to the National Women Football Committee in 2019. Like a member of NEC in LeFA, I must originate from a particular club,” he said.
He showed that although he did not plan to run for the presidency, he however, ended up contesting because of influence from the teams.
“They supported me and believed in me, that is why I managed to collect so many votes,” he said.
He said he also entered the elections because he realised how much Berea teams struggle.
“Firstly, we do not have proper playgrounds in order to host Premier League games. Lioli hold their matches in Maseru or Maputsoe, but luckily we have been allocated a site where we will build a stadium and all required documents are in our hands. What is left is for us to proceed with the construction,” he said, adding that Berea clubs also lack qualified coaches and referees.

Thabaneng said DIFA Berea held compliance officers training sessions before the elections in preparation for the return to football.
“We have already started teaching teams about COVID-19 protocols. My plan is to ensure that all members of DIFA Berea administration get the required knowledge.
“Some of our plans fail due to lack of knowledge of administration. Everyone has to know their responsibilities as members and this will make it easier to achieve our goals,” he said, promising to work hard to develop football in Berea.
For his part, LeFA Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi said procedurally, Thabaneng will vacate his role as First Vice President in order to assume his new position, adding the NEC of DIFA Berea will thereafter decide on the way forward in respect of the vacant position.
