Beautiful Gate marks 25 years of faith and service to vulnerable children

Beautiful Gate Lesotho has marked its 25th anniversary with a corporate breakfast that highlighted the organisation’s work to support vulnerable children and called on individuals and institutions to invest their time, skills and compassion in changing lives.

Held under the theme “Invest in a Child, Transform a Nation,” the event reflected on the ministry’s journey over the past quarter century and honoured the people who have helped it care for hundreds of children across Lesotho.

In opening remarks, Mr. Mark West said the ministry was inspired by the biblical account in Acts 3, where the Apostle Peter tells a lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have, I give you.”

He said that message continues to guide Beautiful Gate’s mission, stressing that meaningful service is not measured only by money but also by a willingness to share knowledge, skills, love and compassion with those in need.

Mr. West said the organisation has spent 25 years restoring hope to vulnerable children by providing a safe and loving environment and, where possible, placing them in permanent families through adoption and foster care.

He also recognised the contribution of staff and supporters from various fields, including nurses, social workers, administrators, lawyers, house mothers, gardeners and cleaners, saying their dedication has been central to the ministry’s success.

Volunteers, churches and partners from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands and South Africa were also acknowledged for their continued support.

Special tribute was paid to founders Ray and Sue Hutchinson, whose vision established Beautiful Gate during one of Lesotho’s most difficult periods. Mr. West said their faith and commitment created a foundation that has continued to benefit generations of children.

He said the organisation has faced both blessings and hardship over the years, but has remained committed to ensuring that vulnerable children are treated with dignity and given the chance to build brighter futures.

A moment of silence was held in memory of children, staff members and supporters who have died over the years.

Mr. West concluded by urging individuals, businesses and development partners to keep supporting efforts that strengthen families and protect children, saying investment in children is ultimately an investment in Lesotho’s future.

The breakfast was part of a wider programme marking Beautiful Gate Lesotho’s 25th anniversary, celebrating a legacy built on faith, service and hope.
