MASERU – A second case of COVID-19 has been recorded in Lesotho, the newly appointed Minister of Health Motlatsi Maqelepo has confirmed.

He said the new victim was among 274 people who were tested upon their entry into the country from South Africa through the Tele Bridge in Quthing between May 12 and 17.

Maqelepo said in order to ensure the safety of the nation and to identify those who have been infected by the coronavirus timeously; the ministry has decided to test everyone who enters the country.

He therefore appealed to Basotho to respect and support one another in these trying times.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative Dr Richard Banda said the second case of COVID-19 in Lesotho is an indication that the pandemic is amongst us.

He said there is still a chance to manage the pandemic and prevent the outbreak from getting out of hand.
Dr Banda appealed to Basotho to treat the outbreak with the attention it deserves.
