EMBATTLED Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences boss, Advocate Mahlomola Manyokole briefly appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a litany of charges including corruption, theft, fraud, money laundering and contravening provisions of the Accountants Act of 1977.

Manyokole is charged together with the DCEO'S Chief Asset Recovery Litigation Officer, Peter Matekane, along with Head of the Asset Recovery Unit, Ikhetheleng Matabane and Mokorotlo Communications (PTY) LTD, as well as Matsobane Putsoa, M Putsoa and Associates and Relebohile Lesholu.
All the accused who were released on bail are expected back in court on June 28 while investigations into the matter continue.

It is alleged that the accused acted in concert and common purpose between June 2020 and January 2021 by appointing Putsoa of M Putsoa and Associates to acquire, possess and use monies to be collected and/or already in possession of Victoria Hotel, convert or transfer such monies from M Putsoa and Associates (Curator bonis Victoria’s) account into various accounts of their business associates, family and friends.

The aim, it also alleged was to conceal and disguise the illicit origin or true nature of that property, movement, or ownership of the said monies, fully knowing that was unlawful.
At the material time, the company had been deregistered with the Lesotho Institute of Accounts since June 2016 for non-payment of membership fees.
