The 44-year-old man from Leribe accused his wife of cheating, saying she entertained other men and always arrived home late at night.
The gravely injured woman, police said was admitted in hospital where she is recovering.
According to police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, when the suspect was arrested on January 22, he was high on drugs and heavily intoxicated.

“The incident had occured two days earlier. Upon his arrest, police found the victim’s cell phone in the suspect’s possession and it later emerged that he had seized it to prevent her from calling for help,” Supt Mopeli told a press briefing on Monday.
The man, Supt Mopeli also showed was believed to be responsible for the 2015 murder by assault of his first wife.
