FORMER Orlando Pirates and Likuena captain Lehlohonolo Seema has assisted Chippa as their coach, to retain the Premier Soccer League (PSL) status after defeating Royal AM in the promotional/relegation playoffs this week.

Chippa accumulated the most points over the two GladAfrica Championship contenders, Richards Bay FC and Royal AM of which the former Bantu FC midfielder Peter Ramasimong Maloisane was on the Chilli Boys scoresheet.

Coach Seema led Chippa to a 2-1 victory and a 1-1 draw against National First Division outfit Richards Bays during the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs.

The promotion/relegation play-offs - held in a mini-league format - have had its integrity thrown into doubt with the non-showing of Royal AM.

The Chilli Boys are expected to be awarded two walkover wins over Royal AM, who failed to honour their playoff fixtures due to their ongoing court battle with the PSL in which they aim to be reinstated to the top of the 2020/21 NFD standings.

Chippa United have officially bid farewell to outgoing Seema who is set to succeed Mandla Ncikazi at Golden Arrows since Ncikazi joined Orlando Pirates a few weeks ago following his successful spell with Arrows.

Abafana Bes'thende, have however not yet unveiled Seema as their mentor.

Chippa United Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi thanked the players, coaching staff and management of the team for their efforts during this season.

"We have made it and retained our elite league status, I thanked Coach Lehlohonolo Seema for his efforts and I wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.

The Chilli Boys Public Relations Office also thanked the people of Eastern Cape for their continuous support.

Seema re-joined Chippa United after being fired by Black Leopards towards the end of the Premier Soccer League and Chippa finished on 15th position on the log.

Arrows will be the fourth team to be mentored by Seema after Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United and Black Leopards.
